Sewing the five star centers can be daunting if it’s your first time. Personally, it took me a fair bit of time, but I finally got the hang of it. When using the Flat Back Stitch, connecting your five star rosette centers can become a little easier. In the video below, I’ll go through an (almost) step by step tutorial showing how to sew the five star centers. A few tips and tricks are included as well!

The written content below provides additional detail on the process focussing on several close-up images.

This is what you need to do:

Five Diamonds To Make a Star Center

When folding the 5 diamond shapes you have to fold them all the same way that way the little tails slide together at the center point. First line up the 5 shapes going the same way.

Next flip them over keeping them in the same direction and glue baste one side. After this, glue base the other side. Now they are all folded the same way.

The tails of the diamonds interlock with each other. When sewing the diamonds together you have to fold down the tail to get to the point. See below.

Makes for much easier sewing and the tails don’t get in the way and slide together.

Hi, Karen! So, after you get all five pieces done, do the little ears interfere at all on the back side as you’re sewing the pieces together? Do you have to move the ears aside? No big deal? (I’m about to start this amazing feat and am trying to glean as many tips from everyone as I can before I start!) TIA!

      Hi Michele!

Yes, the tails do get in the way. But if you fold all of them in the same way the tails fit inside each other.

I’m about to post a picture so you can see it in the blog post! (shortly)

Thank you for stopping by! Can’t wait to see what you do.

Karen, I just love your videos. I have difficulty reading instructions. I’m what they call a “visual” learner.
I’m not PP my rosettes. I’m a traditional quilter, so just stitching a straight running stitch, tiny stitches!
Have a Great Day! See you in Houston.
